Help for Virtual Stopwatch and Timer

Two timing devices are available, the stopwatch for counting up, and the timer for counting down.  These timers both depend on your PC's internal clock, so we can't guarantee their accuracy.  You use them at your own risk, see terms of use

Each timing device has their own controls and preferences as explained below.

Stop Watch Controls

The stop watch is design to count time up from zero, to a maximum of 100 hours.  It has three controls (start, stop and reset) and follows two preference settings (design and auto start).

Start -- Starts stop watch.  If you have the Auto Start preference set, then when you bring up the stop watch in the browser, it will automatically start counting up.

Stop -- Stops stop watch.  You can stop and start the stop watch multiple times, and the stop watch will continue counting up each time from its current count.

Reset -- Resets stop watch to zero.

Timer Controls

The timer is designed to count time down from a start value, to zero.  It has three controls (Start, Stop and Reset) and follows four preferences (Design, Start Value, Alarm, and Auto Start).

Start -- Start timer.  If you have the Auto Start Preference set, then when you first bring up the timer, it will automatically start counting down.

Stop -- Stop timer.  You can stop and start the timer multiple times, and the timer will continue counting down from its current count.

Reset -- Reset timer to Start Value Preference.

Preferences

Preferences for the stop watch and timer are saved via cookies on your PC.  This saves you from having to set any non-default settings each time you wish to use the stop watch or timer.  These preferences are automatically saved in a cookie...

Design -- To choose from different numeric styles for the stop watch and timer display.

Start Value -- To set the time value that the timer should start counting down from.  Maximum start value is 99:59:59 or ~100 hours.

Alarm -- To turn on or off the alarm when the timer reaches zero.  Valid settings are 'off', 'horn' or 'popup' window.

Auto Start -- To have the timer or stop watch automatically start running when they are first brought up by the browser.

The preferences are automatically saved in a cookie on your PC each time you change a preference.

Accuracy

We have designed the timers to be accurate, and in our testing found our timers to accurate within 1 second for every 10 minutes or so.  But, the accuracy of these JavaScript timing devices are dependant on the accuracy of each individual PC that they are displayed on, since the JavaScript code relies on the PC's internal clock for its timing.  Also if you have a PC that is overloaded with multiple applications running at the same time, or if your browsers image cache memory is full, this can affect the accuracy.  We have no control over each individual PC's internal clock, or how loaded each PC is, so it is up to you ascertain the accuracy of these timers on your PC.  In the event your PC's internal clock is accurate, and your PC is not overloaded, we still can't guarantee that our JavaScript timer and stopwatch devices will be accurate, or that our code is bug, glitch or virus free.
